Our
eyes truly are the windows to our souls.
Unfortunately, our eyelids frequently show the earliest
signs of aging. Whether it is excess skin, bulging fat, or wrinkles,
a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can
correct the disfigurement.
All eyelid procedures are performed in our surgical
suite. We generally recommend light sedation in
addition to local anesthesia. Upper and lower lid
correction are usually done together, although they can be
performed independently.
Excess skin and fat are removed from the upper lids with an
incision well hidden in the upper lid crease. This
results in a dramatic opening of the eyelid area.
Aging of the lower eyelid usually consists of bulging fat
pockets and wrinkled skin. Most commonly a small
incision is made on the inside of the lid and the fat is
removed. The wrinkles can be reduced using laser
resurfacing. Occasionally young men and women have a
familial tendency to bulging fat of the lower eyelids.
They are excellent candidates for a lower blepharoplasty
without any visible incisions.
