Rhinoplasty
is usually performed to reduce the size of the nose; however,
the spectrum of rhinoplasty is diverse and must be tailored
to your unique nasal and facial proportion.
The goal in rhinoplasty is to put the nose into balance with
your face. This may actually involve augmenting
segments of the nose, while reducing other segments.
The bridge, tip and nostrils can all be addressed and
modified appropriately.
Cosmetic improvements can be combined with internal nasal surgery
to correct breathing problems. Sedation or general
anesthesia will be selected based on your specific needs,
and you can plan on going home several hours after the
procedure. Usually all incisions are confined within
the nose.
Pain medication is taken for moderate pain, and
swelling/bruising about the nose/eyes is present for about
one week. Nasal packing and an external splint are
used. The packing is usually removed after several
days and the splint after one week. You may return to
school or work in about a week but strenuous activity is to
be avoided for 4-6 weeks.
Most patients are quite satisfied after rhinoplasty.
